The Time is Now!

Right, I’ve been neglecting my site for far too long (perhaps not long compared to my old site - which, up until it was taken down recently, still had “Coming in 2003″ in it’s title). So, I’ve locked myself away in my room, I’ve got Foo Fighters playing (the new album is great btw) and I’m going to make a proper effort to do… something. Anyway, a fair bit has happened recently, not all of it interesting, not all of it relevant.

It’s times like these…”

I thought I might make a better front-end for the site and tried moving the blog into a sub-directory. Which broke it, so I’m going to try and figure out exactly what I have to do to have the blog somewhere else. Similarly, I’m suspicious that someone has been f*cking with the NCCAForum recently as the CSS broke down and some of the permissions for the admin/mods were screwed. Don’t know what’s going on, but I’m slightly annoyed that I now have a very ugly forum and that at some point I’ll have to dig through my back-ups and find the old CSS.

“Don’t wanna be your monkey wrench…”

As well as feeling guilty about wasting my own money, I’m also here because I’m not on my way back from work. Normally each summer, I go and work at Churchill Insurance in the e-Commerce dept. (making web banners and fixing stuff). It’s well paid and not something I find very difficult, an ideal combination for summer work, I think you’ll agree. However, as per usual, they’re taking ages to sort their HR stuff out and I still haven’t started, despite calling weeks ago for arrangements to be made. It’s a bit annoying having my parents bug me all the time about working over summer, but on the other hand, it means I get to sit around in my underpants all day, play games and read websites. Which is ace ;) Seriously, it’s one of my favourite hobbies.

Hmmm… just sitting here writing this is making me think about all the sections I ought to have. I’ve played loads of games and seen loads of films since I last wrote anything, I really should try my hand at writing some reviews or at least getting my thoughts down on paper about each of them before I forget. It’s great having a girlfriend that works at Choices. Unfortunately she’s in Bournemouth and I’m now in London :( but it was nice seeing her last weekend - even if it did mostly involve cleaning my house and moving her stuff from my place (finally moved out of the sh*thole!) to Jimmi’s - that’s a hell of a lot of stairs in case you were wondering! :P

“This is a call to all my past resignations…”

Since I’m in my ‘work drought’ I thought I’d make some steps towards starting my major project. Yesterday (along with buying Pac Pix for my Nintendo DS - I actually think EG were too harsh with the score but more on that later - perhaps) I got a copy of ‘Screenwriting’ from the “Teach Yourself” series by Ray Frensham. This is hopefully going to inspire me to start putting together a story and script for my major project (I’m an animator: I’d like to have something character-driven). It’s bloody hard coming up with a story/script that can take place over 2 minutes of footage - no idea how I’m going to do this. Anyway, I’ve only read a little so far, but it seems pretty good. Yes it does assume that you actually want to be a screenplay writer and does talk about the industry and getting an agent towards the end, but I just won’t read that part (unless it turns out I’m really not suited to the CG industry ;)). Look out for some more ideas and thoughts about this project coming up over the next few days and weeks - hopefully I can start some pre-production soon - Oh and if anyone has some good recommendations for film noir viewing, please let me know - I’m intending to immerse myself in it (I’m currently in the “I want to do a noir piece”-state of mind)!

Phew! I feel much better. Anyway enough for now, I’ll be adding some more stuff as the days go on!
