Class 1 Week 3

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Week 3. The very first animation of the term, the year, the course! Well, obviously not the very first animation I’ve done this year but you can see why this would be important! Our brief for this week: “to animate a bouncing ball with the weight and bounce of a basketball or football in under 100 frames using the side view only.” and “Pose Stu communicating excitement based upon one of your sketches”.

Let’s start with the animation then! Here’s some all-important video reference footage I shot in the office:

Here’s the planning:

Unfortunately the truth is often stranger than fiction and having followed the reference too closely Shaun thought there were too many bounces for a football. So here’s the revised animation based on his critique:

Right, onto the ‘Excitement’ pose then. Here are the sketches:

And here’s the final pose I did for the hand in:

I think there are some revisions I can make to this pose, but overall: a good week!

Class 1 Week 2

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

So the first week on AM was basically getting used to navigating the site, meeting some new people, making introductions and the like. Week 2 is when the real work begins! The assignment for this week was going out into the Real World™ and sketching people, drawing out some nice poses based on what we observe.

Rather conveniently I had to drop Marie off at Stansted at some ungodly hour so I had the opportunity to sit in the arrivals hall and put pencil to sketchbook:

And here’s the revised version of pose 4 using Stu, one of the provided AM character rigs:

Hello World 2.0

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Hello world! If you’ve started (or made your way) all the way back to the very first post, you might like to read this, which should hopefully go some way to explaining the weird time warp that seems to be happening here! I’ve basically post-dated all my work so that it appears in some kind of order representative of my progress through the Animation Mentor course!

Welcome and thanks for checking out my site!
