Class 1 Week 7

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

Since it was so important, we did even more overlapping action this week! This time using Tailor (the little ball with a tail) we had to animate the little guy jumping at least three times. So this would combine the squash and stretch bouncing ball of a few weeks ago with the overlapping pendulum action from last week! Let’s take a look at the initial idea sketches I did:

So, some rough thoughts about what poses might crop up and having a think about how the tail might react during a very standard jump. Here’s the actual plan itself:

Class 1 Week 6

Just an animation this week, but a real tough one! Overlapping action or the ‘successive breaking of joints’ is a key tenet of animation. It exists all over the place, even if you don’t see it at first – and it’s certainly important if you want to create nice looking, dynamic animation!

We had to plan out a move for a simple block and animated the subsequent reaction of the pendulum hanging beneath it.

This is the all-important planning I did for the starting motion of the pendulum:

And here’s a more detailed look at what I wanted to happen at the top of the animation arc:

And the animation:

This week’s assignment was… reasonably successful. I think I lost sight of how the pendulum should really be reacting to the movement of the block and as such it feels a little too floaty and light. Next time perhaps!

Class 1 Week 5

Tough week this one! Squash and stretch bouncing ball as well a pose that demonstrates the emotion of ‘devastation’. Here are the two plans I did before starting to animate:

I went with the second plan – and here’s the final result!

Pretty happy with it, but there are a few areas that could be improved. I think I could probably tweak the path through the air and the hang time to infinity! Anyway, here are the ‘devastated’ sketches:

And the chosen pose using Stu:

Class 1 Week 4

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

The brief for Class 1 Week 4 was to “create an animation with both a light ball and a heavy ball that bounce then come to a stop in the same shot.” Here’s the planning:

And the final animation:
